Well after changing the timing belt and water pump at 100K mi. I was happily driving to work a month later when at a stop sign the car shuddered and stopped. I tried to crank it up but it turned over very slowly and sounded like it was on the wrong stroke of compression. Changed batteries, checked grounds, etc. to no avail so I finally got it back in the garage and tore it down to the TB again. I removed the crank pulley and keyway, which was full length and square but noted that the crank gear had turned in relation to the crank keyway. How does this happen? Is my crank snapped?
Well I pulled the crank gear and noticed some dusting, I looked at the keyway and noticed it is not square but rectangular. Could I have inserted it ‘tall’ and still fit? If so could the keyway ‘rollover’ and slide out? I tapped it back in flatways. I’m tempted to reassemble and give it a try but as I’m adding a SuperCharger soon the pressure on the crank will be greater… oh, this is prior to timing alignment.
